Department of Information Science and Engineering shall create high quality IT Engineering Professionals for the betterment of society by:

DEPARTMENT PROFILE

The Department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE) was established in the year 1992 with an objective of producing high quality professionals to meet the demands of the emerging field of Information Technology. Department offers Bachelor’s program in Information Science and Engineering (B. E), Master’s program in Data Science (MTech) and Doctoral program (Ph.D.). The Department of Information Science and Engineering, is a progressive department that has made significant contributions to Academics, Research and Innovation. Under Graduate (UG) program acquired accreditation status from National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2001 under tier-1 scheme. The department has highly qualified and competent faculty members committed to innovative teaching learning and quality research. Department has 8 well-equipped state of the art laboratories which meets the requirement of curriculum, innovation and research. Collaboration with industries such as Apple, Unisys, Mindtree, Intel, Google, SECO, IBM, NVIDIA etc, has a significant impact on the curriculum, computing infrastructure, teaching & learning and research. The curriculum is centred around Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, IOT, Cloud & Distributed Computing, System Programming, Computer Security and Software development. Curriculum and the teaching learning process ensure that the students demonstrate technical competence, ethical reasoning, creativity in identification & formulation of the problems and develop solutions by using appropriate tools & techniques. Department has established technical clubs/ professional student chapters to provide collaborative learning platform for the students. Echo system has been built to initiate start-ups/Innovation at the department level along with the mentorship program. The activities of the Department led to high profile placements, motivation to become an entrepreneur, and encouragement for higher learning.

DEPARTMENT HISTORY

  • Department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE) was established in the year 1992
  • Department has started with B.E in Information Science and Engineering with an intake of 30 students : Intake was enhanced to
    • 60 students in the year 1999
    • 90 students in the year 2001
    • 120 students in the year 2008
  • Department has started M.Tech in Data Science with 18 students in the year 2023.
  • NBA accreditation status :
    • UG Program: accredited for the first time in the year 2001. Subsequently it was accredited in the years 2004, 2010, 2015.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):
  • PEO1: Become competent Information Technology professionals with continuous progress in career or learning

Program Outcomes (POs):
  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

  • PSO1: Apply Mathematical models, programming paradigms and software development practices to solve real world problems.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):
  • PEO1: Contribute in the area of Software Engineering development, maintenance and research in social-technical system
  • PEO2: Exhibit the Software Engineering skills for analysis, design and testing using modern tools and technologies within or outside discipline.
  • PEO3: Act according to professional ethics and communicate effectively with various stakeholders by demonstrating leadership qualities.
Program Outcomes (POs):
  • PO1 An ability to independently carry out research/investigation and development work to solve practical problems.
  • PO2 An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.
  • PO3 Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.

Dr. B P Vijaya Kumar

Dr. B P Vijaya Kumar Pursued his Ph.D in Electrical Communication Engineering in 2003, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, M.Tech in Computer Science and Technology, India Institute of Technology, in 1993, BE in Electronics and Communication, First class with distinction, Mysore Unversity in 1987. Presently he is a Professor, Information Science and Engg., Dept, M S Ramaiah Institute of Tech., Bangalore. His research interest Applying Computational Intelligence - to meet the future smart-network's requirement such as cognitive computing approaches for intelligent networks. Involved in designing an adaptable, reliable, scalable and stabilizable routing algorithms for mobile adhoc and sensor networks, and also includes mobility based issues and context-aware service strategies by using intelligent techniques, i.e., swarm & bio-inspired computing and Neural Networks to solve the optimization or/and function approx. problems in mobile networks for better services. He is having 33 years of Teaching and 20 years of Research experience. He has published around 70+ papers which include journals, conferences and project proposals. His name is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World, and Marquis Who’s Who in Asia, 2012,14. Recognized as mentor for Innovative projects at MSRIT for Nokia Mobile innovation lab., under university relations, Finland. Mobile app for testing the Mobile OS, by IT-BZ, Govt. of Karnataka, 2011, winner award for Smart India Hachthon 2018, 2019, Infosys Faculty achievement award. PROJECTS-PI and Co-PI for many research projects from Govt. like TIFAC, FIST DST; ICMR, Govt. of India, and industry projects, to name a few includes "Road Traffic accidents: A Comprehensive Emergency Care and Trauma Registry for Road Traffic Injuries in India- Bengaluru, Karnataka. and ii) Heart Rescue India, Govt. of India, National Task Project. iii) Co-PI for DST project on “Design and Development of a Low cost Portable Gait Motion analysis System” Rs. 55 Lakhs , ii) Chief Coordinator, TIFAC CORE in Pervasive Computing Technologies, Rs. 5.12 Crores, TIFAC, DST, New Delhi. Iii) Coordinator, DST-FIST program, Level I, Rs 24.7 Lacks, DST – New Delhi, 2007. iv) Co-ordinator, at MSRIT “Test Rig - Innovative International Industry collaboration: Condition Monitoring of Conveyor belt using embedded and monitoring systems” MOU with HoneyWell, CREATIVE PRODUCTS - * Designed a Neural Network computing tool for solving Linear programming problems, optimization; Classification, prediction and forecasting; and function approximation problems. *Developed a Graph search recursive algorithm for reachability analysis: Computer Network Protocol specification, verification and conformance testing. * Design and development of Intelligent adaptive applications having rural and social impact using mobile computing platforms, wireless networks and portable devices with the support of UG students.
