To be a nationally prominent and internationally recognized department in academics and research activities with the aim of developing competitive software professionals to serve the society and ever changing industry.

DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The Department of Master of Computer Applications was established in 1997 with the objective of producing high quality professionals to meet the demands of the emerging field of Computer Applications. A team of experienced staff members are dedicated to teaching and developing academic activities in the department. The department got academic autonomy in the year 2007 and is accredited by NBA. The Department of Master of Computer Applications is recognized as a Research Center under Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012.

Department of Master of Computer Applications offers two programs that are affiliated to VTU – Belgaum and recognized by AICTE:

  • PG in Master of Computer Applications.
  • Ph.D. (Research Center).
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):
  • PEO1: Excel in professional career in the field of Computer Applications and contribute to research and development activities.
  • PEO2: Provide software solutions that are socially acceptable and adapt emerging technologies and tools.

  • PO1: Apply knowledge of mathematics and computing principles appropriately to develop conceptual model for real world problems.
  • PO2: Identify and formulate problem definition for real world problems, analyze the literature of the domain and provide solutions using mathematics and computing.
  • PO3: Design, develop and assess a software system, process, component, or program of varying complexity that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety and societal considerations.

Dr Monica R Mundada

Dr. Monica R Mundada currently serves as the Professor and Head of the Department of Master of Computer Applications at M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. With an impressive teaching tenure exceeding 25 years, she spent 23 years as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. In addition to her academic roles, she has taken on diverse responsibilities such as Program Coordinator, NBA Coordinator, NAAC Coordinator, and Chief Proctor at MSRIT.

Dr. Monica R Mundada earned her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Poojya Dodappa Appa College of Engineering, Gulbarga, in 1996. Subsequently, she completed her Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from VTU at MSRIT in 2003. Her academic journey culminated with a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute in 2014.

Her professional engagements extend to valuable collaborations and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with esteemed organizations like I LOVE TO CARE Charitable Trust, University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore, Trestle Labs Private Limited, and Unisys Cloud. These collaborations have resulted in noteworthy projects and impactful outcomes.

Dr. Monica's prolific research contributions encompass over 55 publications in reputable journals and conferences, patent applications, consultancy projects, and successful involvement in funded projects. Notably, her work involves technology development, automation of hydroponic farms, and innovative solutions in agriculture. She actively participates in professional bodies such as the Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), ACM, and CSI. Additionally, she has authored books and contributed chapters in the field of cyber-physical systems.

Her involvement in institute-level activities is extensive, ranging from serving as an ISO/IQAC Auditor to being a session chair for international conferences. Dr. Monica R Mundada has demonstrated her proficiency in coordinating technical and administrative roles within the institution.
