History:
The Department of Chemical Engineering was initiated in the year 1976, two years ahead of admission to the first batch of students in 1978.
Since its inception the department has pioneered in training outstanding graduates in Chemical Engineering. About a thousand students have graduated from this department. The department has celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2003 with pomp and gaiety. Over the years the department has grown and acquitted itself as ISO certified. It has been approved as a research center for acquiring higher qualification leading to the degrees of M.Sc and Ph.D. The department has a unique Pilot Plant Laboratory in spacious premises. Recently the department conducted one-week workshop on Food Process Engineering. The Society of Chemical Engineers (SCE) under the aegis of the department is active in conducting several programs like invited lectures, Industrial visits, and other co-curricular activities. The department has been conducting a State Level Quiz competition in the memory of our beloved Founder Chairman Late Sri. M.S. Ramaiah.
The faculty actively involve themselves as office bearers and coordinators for various committees like Sports, Culture, and work as Proctors to counsel the students.
The department has set for itself vision and goal and is developing strategies for achieving them in a systematic manner. The goal is to make the department as a center of excellence in the field of Chemical Engineering (CE) by catering the needs of our country and competing in global level in education, industrial consultancy and research. To fulfill the objectives the department has set its mission as:

In addition, the department bags highest number of university ranks. The department is proud of its alumni for their subsequent achievements in industry & academia.
The Chemical Engineering Department of MSRIT is doing its best to excel itself and impart quality education. It is unique in having ISO certification and NBA accreditation among the chemical engineering departments. The department maintains excellent working environment. Faculty members are highly motivated and interactive. The department has well-equipped laboratories. The department faculty and students are sincerely committed to the cause of chemical engineering profession.
