Research Collabarations:

The research expertise of the faculty coupled with the unique location of MSRIT in Gokul Education Campus being one of the constituent professional colleges of MSR Group of Institutions has promoted Inter-Institutional Research programs. Workshop/Symosium

  • Three days Lab-oriented technical workshop on “Immunological Techniques” was conducted during 19, 20 and 21st February 2009. The workshop had a total of 40 participants with 12 participants from BMS college of Engineering and 28 participants from MSRIT, Bangalore. The lab sessions were conducted in two parallel sessions with 20 participants in each lab
  •  Ttraining the trainer programme on “Comprehensive & practical Approach to Intellectual Property rights Ensuring Synergy between Technology & law” conducted for the TEQIP colleges of Karnataka on held on 1st to 5th December 2008 sponsered by SPFU(TEQIP), Karnataka.
  • Organized one day technical symposium on  “Nanobiotechnology” on 1st September 2008. The participation was overwhelming; more than 300 participants from different Engg. Pharmacy Colleges. All the participants expressed their opinion saying the lecturers were very informative and they also expressed that satisfaction over, the way symposium organized and suggested to hold more this kind lecture series in the future. Overall the programme was very effective and successfully done.
  • The department of Biotechnology, MSRIT organized one day symposium on “Recent advances in Medical Biotechnology” under TEQIP-faculty development programme on 5th April 2008. There were about 5 series of lectures on various topics, encouraging academia-research & Industry. The participation was overwhelming; more than 98 participants were registered. All the participants expressed their opinion saying the lecturers were very informative and they also expressed that satisfaction over, the way symposium organized and suggested to hold more this kind lecture series in the future. Overall the programme was very effective and successfully done.
  • The staff of Department of MSRIT, organized a two-day workshop “Biology for Engineers” towards Faculty Development Programme on 16th & 17th April 2008. This programme is unique insense; it was included lectures followed experimental demonstration on some important biotechnology techniques that found to be important for the engineers. There were 15 participants; everyone felt the program was very useful & well organized. Some suggested the program could have been at least for three days.

National Seminar Organized 

  • Organizing a National conference on “Medical Biotechnology and Clinical Research” was organized on 2nd and 3rd october 2009 in collaboration with Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bangalore at IISc., Bangalore. In all 1200 delegates (UG & PG students & Faculty) from different Engineering & Pharmacy Colleges across the country. The Seminar concept, coverage of topics and presentations were rated as very good to excellent by the participants.
  • A National Seminar on “Biosafety Global Models in Research & Clinical Trials” was organized on 12th October 2006. In all 303 delegates (UG & PG students & Faculty) from different Engineering & Pharmacy Colleges across the country (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa and Tamil Nadu) participated in the National Seminar. The Seminar concept, coverage of topics and presentations were rated as very good to excellent by the participants.

     

Biotechnology Magazine

The Technical magazine entitled “PROGENITOR 09” was released on 29th October 2009.

Guest Lectures Organized

In 2010 (Up to June):

Organizing Guest lecture by inviting Dr. Hamsa Puthalakath, Principal Research Fellow, La Trobe University, Australia for the special lecture on "Apotosis- cell Death"  as well as  “Biotechnology and its Future” on 22nd January 2010.

In 2009:

A Guest Lecture was organized on ‘The new biotechnology using blue sky  technologies to create a greener planet” by inviting Dr. R N Srinivasa Gowda Founder Vice Chancellor, KVAFSU, Bidar On   29th October 2009.

 In 2008:

A Guest Lecture was organized on ‘Carrier opportunities for Biotechnologists” by inviting Dr. Amritav Chatergee, Managing Director, M/s. Sartorious Pv.t Ltd. On 27th September 2008.

In 2007:

  • ‘Stem Cells & Tissue Generation”. by inviting Dr. S G Anandha Rao, Founder & Director, Sri Raghavendra Biotechnologies, on 6th October 2007.
  • “‘Novel trends in Bioinformatics’ Special invited lecture from Dr. Indira Gosh, Director, Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Pune University, on 3rd May 2007

Hands-On-Training

A training of four weeks duration in Molecular Biology Techniques (apart from regular VTU curriculum) was organized on all Saturdays & Sundays for IV Sem students in collaboration with SRIGEN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.

Co-Curricular Achievements

  • The students of Biotech department have excelled not only in academics but also in co-curricular and extra curricular activities. The students participated in various fields such as sports, theatre, music, literature and dance along with project works and paper presentations pertaining to various fields in Biotechnology
  • Amitha Shetty, Harshith Bhat, Denzil Corda Johnson, Abdul Sami, won Gold Medal in Poster Presentation on “Free radical scavenging, Anti-Inflammatory and in Vivo Antioxidant Properties of Aegle marmelos may be responsible for the Radioprotective Effects” in National Symposium on “ Recent Trends in Bio-Sciences” conducted by Dept. of Zoology, PES College, Bangalore on 30-31 August 2007.
  • Denzil Corda Johnson, Abdul Sami and Amitha Shetty presented Poster on “Free radical scavenging and antiperoxidative effects contributes to the chemopreventive effects of Ayurvedic drug triphala” in National Symposium on “ Recent Trends in Bio-Sciences” conducted by Dept. of Zoology, PES College, Bangalore on 30-31 August 2007.
  • Abdul Sami, Denzil Corda Johnson, Amitha Shetty, Gautam Rajan presented a Poster on “Evaluation of free radical scavenging and antioxidant activities of Syzigium cumini in vitro ” in National Symposium on “ Recent Trends in Bio-Sciences” conducted by Dept. of Zoology, PES College, Bangalore on 30-31 August 2007.
  • Venugopal T, Abhilash K and Yoomin Rafeeq Presented Poster on “Micronuclei assay of buccal cells, an idyllic predictive marker for oral mutagenesis and carcinogenesis in beedi smokers” in National Symposium on “ Recent Trends in Bio-Sciences” conducted by Dept. of Biotechnology, PESIT, Bangalore on 30-31 Aug 2007.
  • Subramanya Kumar BO, Sachin Kumar and Balachander H Presented a Poster on “Micronuclei assay of buccal cells, an idyllic predictive marker for oral mutagenesis and carcinogenesis in alcoholics” in National Symposium on “ Recent Trends in Bio-Sciences” conducted by Dept. of Biotechnology, PESIT, Bangalore on 30-31 August 2007.
