Membership Drive: IEEE membership drive was held on 25th October 2007, where the students from first, second and third year were introduced to IEEE. A scholarship test was also conducted and 20 students were selected who got 50% off on their IEEE membership fee.
Aavishkaar 2007 – IEEE MSRIT Annual Technical Fest
The annual IEEE MSRIT Tech fest, Aavishkaar 2007 was conducted on 12th & 13th September 2007. More than 1000 participants from all over the country participated in the fest. The tech fest had a number of events such as On the Spot Programming, Circuit Designing & Debugging, 8086 programming, and Amazing Race, Cyber Treasure Hunt, Project Exhibition, Paper Presentation, Robo-Lympics, Tech Quiz, Think Tank, Gaming and Informal events.
Nanotechnology Workshop: One day Nanotechnology workshop titled, "Nanotechnology from a Layman's prespective" was conducted on 2nd May 2007. It consisted of three very interesting topics:
(i) Nanotechnology for wireless communication - By Dr. Kota Murali, Motorola Research India
(ii) Nanoelectronics : An exploration through the periodic Table - By, Prof. Navakanta Bhat, Dept. of E&C IISc
(iii) MEMS - By Dr. Rudra Pratap, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IISc
MATLAB Workshop: A half day workshop on MATLAB was conducted by the final year students, Kartik, Harsha and team on tuesday, 20th March 2007. About 50 students attended the introductory workshop, where they were introduced to MATLAB, and were given a glimpse of enormous capabilities of this wonderful tool.
Linux Workshop: By Srikant Nori: The two-part Linux workshop was intended to be a myth buster. It was mainly directed towards the "non-geeky" people, who were wary of using Linux because of the apperent complexity of installing and working in Linux. Srikant did an amazing job of demostrating how easy it is to use Linux. By the end of the workshop, the mission had been accomplished! Most were convinced that Linux can be a very secure and fully customizable alternative operating system.
Aavishkaar 2006 – An IEEE MSRIT Annual Technical Fest
Aavishkaar 2006, the annual technical fest was held on 12th and 13th April 2006. It wasa great success. This time the event had participants from colleges all over India.About 1000 participants battled it out for honours in events such as on-the-spot programming, circuit designing, technical quiz, among others. The project exhibition attracted a lot of participation, where students showed off their innovative ideas.
Talk on Hybrid Vehicles: Prof. N V Chalapatti Rao, CEDT, IISc gave an informative talk on the very interesting topic, "Hybrid Vehicles” on 28th March 2006.
Tejas Networks talk on SDH: 15th October, 2005: The technical talk on the latest developments in the field of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) was conducted in the Hi-Tech Seminar Hall at 12:00 PM today. The response from the students was quite high, with more than 200 students attending the event. The event was conducted by Mr Vasantha Kumar fromTejas Networks, one of the country's leading organizations focused on development of high-performance infrastructure for wired and wireless networks.
The event saw large participation from Electronics, Telecommunication, and Computer Science students, among others. None left disappointed due to the wide range of topics covered. The speaker covered the basics of the SDH, and then summarized many of the latest developments in the field. Some of the topics covered were: The evolution of transmission systems, SDH Frame structures, SDH Topologies, SDH Advantages and SDH Equipments.
Cryptography from a layman's perspective: 19th September, 2005: The latest advances in the field of communications and commerce have made the need for the security of transmissions greater than ever before. The field of encryption is growing at a fast pace to keep up with the needs of modern technology. Considering the growing interest in cryptography, and the fact that it is a cross-disciplinary subject, the IEEE invited Prof R. Vittal Rao from the Indian Institute of Science to deliver a talk on the subject. Prof. Rao agreed, and the talk was arranged at the Conference Hall today. The event started promptly and, despite a few glitches with the PA system, it was a resounding success. This was the first IEEE event of the year, and it was appreciated by everyone present at the venue. Prof. Rao, an experienced speaker took us through the evolution of cryptography, from the humble beginnings of the Caesar cipher, to todays modern Public Key systems such as the RSA algorithm. With his simple explanations and detailed examples Prof. Rao ensured that the students present were fully comfortable with the topic and gained a good understanding of the basics of the science. We hope to have him back with us for another talk on more advanced techniques.
