At RIT we strongly believe in the holistic development of students, i.e, they develop in such a way that they evolve into full-fledged and confident professionals by the time they graduate. This is made possible by encouraging them to engage in various cultural activities such as music, theatre, literary, visual & fine arts, etc. apart from Sports, NSS, Entrepreneurship Cell and other similar pursuits.

Cultural Activities is not just about entertainment; they help molding the personality of the students and help them in the following ways:

• Enhances soft skills such as communication skills, etiquette and confidence levels.
• Helps students in the areas of time management, emotion management, success & failure management, crisis management and more importantly people management.
• While good grades equip students to get their first jobs, extra-curricular activities help students to equip for their whole lives.
• They help inculcating in students values such as empathy, broad mindedness, team-spirit, self-control, ethics, acceptance of pluralities in society, corporate social responsibility, and so on.

Acknowledging the importance of Cultural Activities in the overall development of the Students, this Institution has created a separate department, known as the Department of Extra-Curricular Activities (DECA), to oversee all such activities of students on campus and off-campus throughout the year.

1. Ice-Breaker –Cultural Orientation for Freshers
   

   Cultural Orientation for Freshers is the inaugural event of every academic year. It serves as a platform to introduce freshers to senior students who lead various activities. During this event, all student-run cultural clubs across different domains are presented, giving newcomers an overview of opportunities available. Additionally, a database of the talents among freshers is created to facilitate future auditions and participation. 2. Dr. M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Parliamentary Debate
   

   It is an annual parliamentary debate tournament organized by the Literary and Debating Society under the guidance of the Department of Extra-Curricular Activities. Having successfully completed six editions, the tournament has grown into one of the largest debate competitions in India, recording the highest participation among such events in South India. It regularly attracts students from prestigious institutions such as IIT Bombay, NITK Surathkal, RVCE, BMSCE, PESIT, NLS Law College, and VIT Vellore, making it a highly esteemed platform for debating excellence.

   
   
   
   


3. Shoutout – The Intra-collegiate Theatre Fest
   

   It is the annual theatre festival organized by the Theatre Society exclusively for the students of MSRIT. It serves as a dynamic platform for students to express their passion for theatre and allied creative fields such as acting, photography, playwriting, filmmaking, editing, and background scoring. The fest features competitions in categories like One Act Plays, Skits, Short Films, and Advertisements. Esteemed professionals are invited as judges to evaluate performances and present awards. 4. Kannada Rajyotsava
   

   This is one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated events of every odd semester. Observed in the month of November, it showcases the rich culture and traditions of the state with great enthusiasm and color. Distinguished litterateurs and renowned actors are invited to the campus to enhance the celebrations. The institute takes pride in the active participation of non-Kannadiga students, who volunteer and contribute significantly to the event’s success. Various competitions are organized, and winners are awarded prizes during the concluding ceremony.

   
   
   
   


5. UDBHAV – The Intercollegiate Cultural Extravaganza
   

   This is the flagship annual cultural fest of MSRIT, recognized among the top ten college festivals in Karnataka by a Deccan Herald survey. With a footfall of around 15,000 attendees and participation from over 35 colleges, it serves as a vibrant platform showcasing diverse talents from across the state. Spanning three days, the fest features both intra-college and intercollegiate events—approximately 27 and 30 respectively—covering fields such as art, music, literature, dance, and theatre. 6. VTU Annual Youth Festival
   

   The VTU Annual Youth Festival is one of the most prestigious cultural events in Karnataka, bringing together top student talent across disciplines such as dance, music, theatre, fine arts, and literature.

   MSRIT has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance at this platform, having secured Overall Championship titles twice and Runner-Up positions ten times across multiple editions. Notably, the institute emerged as the Overall Champions at the 2024 state-level festival “BlissBeat,” hosted by SJCIT, Chikkaballapur, winning multiple accolades including 8 gold and 1 silver medal. With an outstanding record of securing a position among the top two in 23 out of 25 VTU Youth Festivals, MSRIT continues to uphold its legacy of cultural excellence.

   This achievement is further reinforced by the official results of the 25th VTU Youth Festival – Acharya Habba 2026, hosted by Acharya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, where MSRIT secured the Overall Championship (1st place) among nearly 100 participating institutions.

   
   
   
   


7. Other Events on and off-Campus
   

   In addition to the events mentioned above, numerous other activities are organized throughout the academic year, including Freshers’ Quiz and various formal and informal quizzes, Freshers’ Western Acoustic, nature walks and visits, movie screenings, photography workshops, and photo walks. Beyond these, the college’s twenty-plus student-run clubs actively participate in festivals hosted by institutions across India during their free time.
